Deacon Board

Deacon BoardAccording to 2 Timothy 4:2, deacons are to be appointed to handle all other duties, while elders and pastors are to “preach the word…reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” In TWDCI, this entails taking on organizational or administrative responsibilities, managing building upkeep, helping the church finance committee, and supporting ministry in order to reduce the workload of the pastors and ministers.

While the duties of a deacon are extensive, Scripture provides a clear description of the character requirements for a deacon. According to 1 Timothy 3:8–12, they should be pure, the husband of a single wife, a capable manager of the home, honorable, honest, and free from alcoholism and greed. The Bible says that being a deacon is a blessing and an honor. “Because individuals who perform well in their deacon role acquire a good reputation for themselves as well as a great deal of confidence in their faith in Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 3:13).
